Treating the Root of the Problem: Mental Illness is Often the Cause of Alcoholism

I took comfort when I learned my mental illness is the cause (one of the causes, really) of my alcoholism. It was comforting to know I could treat the root of the problem. And to be reminded I never chose to be an alcoholic.
