If you search up what being an ALT is like in Japan, or other countries for that matter, you're likely to get an overwhelming amount of negative responses. And to be honest I understand the vast majority of the complaints. There are can be a lot of social and mental challenges to living overseas in a brand new social environment and culture. But somewhere within the dark and gloomy parts of the position, there are often many un-talked about advantages. In this video I want to encourage some people who may feel a bit burnt out from the ALT life and offer up some fresh viewpoints in staying positive. I'm not a "positivity fixes everything" kind of guy so trust me, I'm not trying to solve all of your problems, but I think that the way we look at our circumstances can have a huge impact on how we spend our time and energy. These are some things that I'll be making an effort to do in an attempt to make the most of my time teaching English in Japan. I hope it can be of use to some of my colleagues as well. Instagram:
