Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who DO NOT have qualifying children under age 17:
DO NOT need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits... so there you go... you dont need to do anything... you just have to wait...
And remember... I said this in my last video... that same group of people... Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who did NOT file taxes in 2018 or 2019 but DO have qualifying children under 17... need to go to the IRS non filers web tool inorder to enter their information and add their dependents... if you dont do that you'll only receive your $1200 and you wont get the $500 per dependent since the IRS has no other way to know you have children.
Now let's talk about some of the reasons you may have not received your payment yet... we'll discuss that through the different error messages that people are seeing on the IRS get my payment app... and that may help you understand why you didnt get your payment yet and what you may need to do.... if you have used the get my payment app.. you know it's very frustrating and not working properly... so what does it mean when the get my payment app says try again later..... this means Your account is locked. and you will not be able to access it until 24 hours have passed... so wait 24 hours and try again..
Another question is.... Why can't I get my payment status... To use Get My Payment, you have to verify your identity by answering some security questions..... If the information you enter does not match and you try multiple times, you will be locked out for 24 hours for security reasons. If for some reason your information cannot be verified then there's nothing else you can do...
Now If you were able to verify your identity but get a “Payment Status Not Available,”message this means the IRS can not determine your eligibility for a payment at this time. This may happen for a few reasons... for example, if you didn’t file either a 2018 or 2019 tax return or you recently filed....and the return has not been fully processed yet.
NOw sometimes you'd just get an ERROR MESSAGE... this just means that some of the information you entered is not correct and you'd need to go to your latest tax return tp make sure you entered everything exactly correct.... They're very picky.. so something like the way you enter your street address... if you live an an avenue and you AVE instead of typing avenue fully... things like that would trigger that error message..
Next lets talk about bank information... some people asked me what would happen if you split your refund on your last return between more than one bank... so here's what the IRS will do.... If you elected to split your refund between several accounts, you cannot use Get My Payment app to designate which account to have your payment deposited in. your payment will deposited to the first bank account that you listed on Form 8888, Allocation of Refund...... If your direct deposit is rejected, your payment will be mailed to the address they have on file for you.
