There are questions surrounding the government’s childcare package and whether family day care will be more disadvantaged than child care centres as many family care facilities have not experienced the same “collapse in attendance” as the centres.
Mr Fitzgibbon said the government’s “model is going to deliver a great disadvantage to the many centres who didn’t have a collapse in attendance of their children in that March period”.
“Their childcare subsidy is going to collapse even though they still have high attendance”.
He told Sky News host Chris Kenny these particular centres will “receive half of their childcare subsidy, but will no longer get any payment from the parents”.
“The idea of focusing on the capacity to tell parents that childcare will be free has led to these distortions”.
