Sky News host Gemma Tognini says the news media have a critical role to play and need to show leadership during the ongoing coronavirus crisis, but “leadership is putting purpose over preference”. “There is no doubt we are in the challenge of our generation, at a time like this, we are all playing our part, but is the media?”.
“We need leadership at this time, media isn’t excluded”.
Ms Tognini said for example the concept of “who an expert has been greatly devalued,” as anyone with a medical degree regardless of specialty are “allowed to have a crack”.
