Credit score is important in today's age as it can be reviewed upon rental application, employment, loan, or a big purchase.
Go to a popular bank and if you can’t get approved to one of their basic cards or student cards (which are pretty easy to qualify for if you’re a student) then get a “secured card” with this you’ll be essentially using cash and putting money on the card before being able to use it - like a gift card - this is not great, but it will be no extra fees and after about 6-12 months of paying the card and using it properly you’ll be able to get a real unsecured credit card!
My number one tip: Go into the physical bank.. they get paid more when they se you up with a new card.. I have done this and instantly got a card that I wasn’t really confident that I would qualify for.
